Type Locality and Naming

Eastern Qinghai-SE Gansu border region. The Huashishan Gr was established by the Regional Survey Team, Qinghai Province. Comprehensive Geological Party, Northwest Bureau of Geology, Ministry of Geology in 1964. The naming locality is at Huashishan, Huangzhong County, Qinghai Province.

Synonym: (化石山群)


Lithology and Thickness

The group is mainly composed of carbonate rock dominated by dolomite and siliceous-banded dolomite with minor slate and limestone. It is recorded for 3500 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It disconformably overlies the Huangzhong Gr of the Changchengian System.

Upper contact

It is in unconformable contact with Middle Permian – the Bayinhe Gr (Lemengou Fm)

Regional extent

Eastern Qinghai-SE Gansu border region. The Huashishan Gr is concentrically distributed at Huajiu Mt. and Malaode Mt: of Gangcha County, Huashi Mt. of Huangzhong County, Laoye Mt. of Datong County, as well as at Nanmen Gorge and Songduo Mt. of Huzhu County, extending east into Yongdeng County, Gansu Province. Thus, it is distributed in a belt shape of roughly east-west direction.
